Secrets of a Successful Headshot
A successful business headshot portrays very little of your body, but it speaks volumes to your potential clients. They likely don't even think about it consciously, but they're still forming an opinion about you and whether they are receptive to your offerings. You need to like it too! Here's an example of one of our client's old portraits, and then a completed portrait using the guidelines below.

Thank you Caroline Radics, RHU, Sterling Mutuals Inc.
Here are the guidelines that we use to keep our clients satisfied:
Consultation - this is a needs assessment where you talk about use of the portrait, dress, location, scheduling, time needed, the mood, background colour, and other personal concerns. Studio lighting - a minimum of 3 lights and modifiers are used to normalize your shape, hide imperfections, soften your features, provide even colour, show dimension, and make your face look symmetrical.
Posing - used to create dynamic lines, show or hide features, show competence & confidence, flatter different body types, create a mood, etc. Expression - depending on your needs the right expression is crucial. Usually professional and approachable are what's desired, but sometimes a different look is required.
Retouching - this varies from subtle to less subtle enhancements to make you look great, even if the timing is bad and you aren't looking your best that day. I.e. black eye, skin problems, wife knocked your tooth, gained 10 lbs in the last week, you name it.
Photoshop - a huge asset for much more than retouching. Everthing from small adjustments to massive creative endeavours are accomplished with this tool. In head shots for example, it can be used for background changes. With groups, use it for creating individual composite images.
Delivery Options - expect colour and BW, high and low resolution digital files for uses ranging from the web, print, or billboard. Special prepping for each is best!
100% Guarantee - what if you don't like your head shot? Technology allows you to see your picture right away, so don't leave until you do.
