Capturing successful Interior Photographs
Capturing successful Interior Photographs
Whether you're a general contractor or sub, the images you use to showcase your product or service speak volumes to your potential clients. Most aren't even consciously aware of what they like or don't like about them, but they do form an opinion that'll determine whether they're receptive to doing business with you or not. Remember, a picture is worth a thousand words. Here's an example of a poor interior image, and then one completed using the guidelines below.

Interior Photography Guidelines
Consultation - this is a needs assessment where we talk about how the photos will be used, the # needed, timing, location(s), and other logistics and specific requirements.
Lighting - this is a huge issue when shooting interiors as you must make sure there's even lighting throughout the image, that's the light is the same colour, and that there's no other distracting light in the image.
Camera/Lens - the right camera/lens combination will minimize wide angle distortion. The goal is to make sure the lines are straight; no leaning or convergence.
Composition/Exposure - find pleasing and interesting angles that show off the room as well as give the images dimension. A couple rules; don't try to put too much into the scene, watch for reflections, and minimize overexposure of outside views and lights.
Processing/Editing - with the best cameras and software there's an incredible amount that can be done to images in the processing and editing stage. For example, distortion can be corrected, white balance (colour of light) adjusted, specific areas can be made darker or lighter, overexposure can be reduced, and so much more it's ridiculous. Expect a natural look with consistency in colour and brightness in all the pictures you have done.
Photoshop - this is where we do special image work that can't be done in our main image processing software. I.e. Removing unwanted objects and reflections, changing what's seen out a window, cloning in burned out lights, and much more.
Delivery Options - clients should expect quality high and low resolution digital files for use s from web to billboard delivered quickly by FTP and/or DVD.
100% Guarantee - why should you pay for images that don't look great? Don't settle for less if you want to generate real interest and convert those leads to sales.
